Epitalon (AEDG)

Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. Khavinson's group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology designed it from the amino-acid composition of epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of bovine pineal gland. In 2017 the same group reported detecting the AEDG sequence inside the pineal polypeptide complex itself.

What is it thought to do?

Two mechanisms are proposed, and they don't have equal support.

• Telomerase. A 2003 study reported expression of the telomerase catalytic subunit, telomerase activity and telomere elongation in telomerase-negative human fetal fibroblasts. An independent lab at Brunel University London reported telomerase upregulation and telomere extension in normal epithelial and fibroblast cell lines in 2025.
• Chromatin and gene expression. Khavinson's group reports that Epitalon decondenses heterochromatin in cultured lymphocytes. Their docking models place it on linker histones H1/3 and H1/6. Labelled Epitalon has been seen entering the nucleus of HeLa cells. Outside this group and computer modelling, we found no replication of the chromatin work.

How much research is there?

About 170 PubMed records mention it, and roughly two-thirds list Khavinson as an author. The work includes cultured human cells, Drosophila, rodent tumour and retinal models, and neuroendocrine markers in older monkeys. Independent reviews from 2025 and 2026 call the full mechanism uncertain, and say pharmacokinetic and long-term data are inadequate.

What you receive

40 mg of Epitalon dissolved in 12 mL of sterile water, in a 15 mL white coated glass bottle with a spray top. No certificate of analysis is posted for Epitalon yet, so we don't quote a purity figure.
